User rights \ drive mapping issues

Hi,
All of a sudden I'm having problems mapping network drives to a server
the other side of our VPN. I grant the user rights to access the files
and folder using Netware admin (also tried console1) this seems to work
OK. But when I tried mapping the drive it comes up with a windows login
box. I tried the same action for another server on the network and it
worked fine. So the problem occurs only on one server.
It looks to me as if the user rights are not updating to the NDS
although all 5 of our Novell servers are in sync.
Nothing has changed on our servers other then adding some extra hard
disk to the server I'm trying to map a drive to in our other office.
we are on version 5.70.05

It doesn't matter if you you NWAdmin or C1 to set the rights. C1 is to prefer,
but both tools can handle rights OK.

OK are you trying to do a Novell mapping or Windows mapping. Since it pops
up a windows login box it appears you are trying a Windows mapping. Do you use
CIFS for the Windows client to access the server perhaps?
How 'bout you try it from the Novell Client instead. Right click the red N in
system tray and select Map Drive (I think that's what it's called).

File system rights are not stored in DS they are stored in the file system
mapping to an ID in DS.

You're a bit behind on the support pack here. You should apply the latest
at your convenience.

Thanks for your reply.
We have since tried it using the "Novell Map Network Drive" option but
that still comes up with a windows login box.
I would like to update to the latest service pack, but we have problems
getting backup exec to work on our Novell servers now so I'm a bit
reluctant to update Novell as this could kill BE for good.

So your at office A, working over VPN to office B and trying to map a drive to
the server at office B? What kind of VPN are you working on?
Is there a netware server at office A as well?

Yep all our servers are Novell and all on the same SP, and I can map
network drives to all the servers, except B which is the other side of
a hardware VPN using a Firebox router at each site.
I can map network drives from B to A using the same user at both sites
just not A to B
The PC's are all Windows XP sp3 running the latest version of the
Novell client

Good to know.

OK so can you map no drives at all or is it just the one that's not working
from A to B?
Could you try through the Novell Client to login directly to the B server, does
that work? If this doesn't work as well you should check that login isn't
disabled at the server. Also check that your IP address isn't being NAT on
the way to the server and that the NCP packets are coming through
correctly to the server.
