How To Change IP Address of Server?9/6/2009 12:06:02 AM

::::
Back in 1999, I created a new NetWare 5 server, using David James
Clarke's Novell's CNA Study Guide for Netware 5.

In his installation instructions, on page 732, he said if the server
was not on the internet to enter the IP address for the server as
187.165.182.18, which I did.

I updated the server once, to service pack 5. Now, I need to completely
rearrange my setup, to use a DSL modem hooked to a router, which has the
server and 2 workstations also hooked up to it. The router instructions
(and my ISP tech support) say to make sure all other computers obtain an
IP address automatically.

I do not know how to change the IP address on this MS-DOS 6 - NetWare 5
text-based server. Can someone please guide me through which file to
edit on the server to change its IP address?

Thank you!

Please do a search in the KNowledgebase for "Change IP address"

Novell has a new enhancement request system,
or what is now known as the requirement portal.

Search found 300 documents, 14 or 15 of which seem to come close to what
I need, but none actually find the information I want. I need to know
how to let the server obtain an IP address automatically, rather than
entering an IP. The router will be the device that will be ?assigning?
IP addresses. If it is not necessary to change the IP address of the
server, I would like to know that as well. The server itself will not be
using the internet, I just need the network so the workstations can see
each other.

Is there a better term or phrase to search under to arrive at that
information?

That is a different kettle of fish entirely. I advice against that.
Configure your router to have a range of fixed addresses and put your
server, along with printers etc there.

Easiest is if your router provides NAT,then just create a private net
with the same address range as you have currently.
