User Control List

Hi,

Im doing a VB asp.net application that dynamically loads several user controls that basically gets user inputs and do a simple database saving process. Is there a way from my .aspx file i can get a list of all the user controls loaded so i can call their specific save event from my .aspx file. Code samples would be appreciated since im new to VB asp.net.

Not sure what your asking. But probably easiest is to to use TheControlContainer.FindControl("controlID"). Here is an example that finds all Label webcontrols on the form and writes the ID to a label.



Private Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load


Dim Digit As Integer


For Digit = 0 To Page.FindControl("Form1").Controls.Count - 1


            If (Page.FindControl("Form1").Controls(Digit).GetType() Is GetType(System.Web.UI.WebControls.Label)) Then


                Label1.Text += "<br>Control Id: " & Page.FindControl("Form1").Controls(Digit).ID.ToString()


            End If


        Next


End Sub

If you are just trying to call a method in your user controls based on a postback then why not just do it in the user control with IsPostBack though? If you need something more sophisticated than that then consider events or public properties to trigger something back at the child user control.

On top of that suggestion, you could do something like this:



private void FindMyControls(Control parent) {


   foreach (Control c in parent.Controls) {


       if (c is MyUserControl)


          ((MyUserControl)c).Save();





       FindMyControls(c);


   }


}

And just call it like so:



FindMyControls(Page);
