Property Browser in VS with custom Control4/9/2004 12:08:01 AM

I have a composite server control and I am trying to allow for the setting of properties from the property browser in VS at design-time. That?s all fine and dandy BUT.... The light just isn't going off on setting the Default Property and just how this default value is set in the property browser of VS. See code below... 


protected Color tabBackColor = Color.Empty;


[Category("Tab")] 


[DefaultValue("Black")]


public Color TabBackColor {get{return tabBackColor;} set{tabBackColor = value;}}


Now this will throw an error when I try to reset to the default value because the default value isn't a Color type. How is this situation handled? Furthermore I can't seem to figure out how to set the default value to a type of Color.

For this, may be you can create an object of type Color, assign it a value (Color value) and then pass this for the DefaultValue.

I am not sure whether this will help. Just give it a try.

Ok I can get the right-click functionailty in VisualStudio working if I don't declare a default value and use... void ResetTabBackColor(){tabBackColor =Color.Black;}. But I still don't understand how to use the attribute [DefaultValue(System.Drawing.Color."Black")] or even the string overload version... [DefaultValue(Black")] any attempts to declare a default value in this way messes up the right-click reset functionality of VS plus gives me and error can't convert type. I assume I must be missing something silly here anyone know the answer? TIA! It's sort of annoying having all the values show up BOLD in the property browser because I can't set a default value for color types. Whats the deal :(

Look at the overloads -- it will show a whole lot more deal Paul:
