Prevent drop of control in a page

Hi.

I have the following 3 classes created:

abstract BasePage : Page
MemberPage : BasePage
AdminPage : BasePage

Now, I've developed a control with some login functions. It's working fine, with design-time rendering...

What I want to do is to prevent the control from being droped in any page. Like, set some property in it (MyControl.PageType = MemberPage) from an Enum or something.
That way, the developer could only drop it in aspx that inherited from MemberPage, not Page or anything else. I'd like to display a message in the IDE explaining this also, if possible.

Any ideas?

It's a little hard to explain. I hope you understand it.

I understand. During runtime, it is impossible to "see" the page's type. However, exceptions are your friends. In the PreRender event, you could do something like this:



protected override void OnPreRender(EventArgs e) {


   if (!(Page is BasePage))


      throw new Exception("Hey! You are not using my base page.");





   base.OnPreRender(e);


}

I can't use (Page is PageBase) in runtime?!?

I understand your use of exceptions... but can I use this technique in design time to warn the IDE? With exceptions, can I display a message box in the IDE? I know I can use them in runtime...
