Injecting custom tags into a datagrid4/28/2003 8:34:29 PM

I want to write <thead>, <tbody>, and <tfoot> tags into a datagrid. It looks like I can override the RenderControl method and accomplish this. Does anyone have any experience doing this? I'm not sure of the syntax to make this work. If I can stay away from a control I would rather just inject the tags from the webform.

I assume you want to do some custom formatting for your column in a datagrid with <thead>, <tbody> and <tfoot>. If it is true, you can use <asp:TemplateColumn> inside of a datagrid to achieve what you want to do. If the assumption is wrong, what did you want to do with these tags in the datagrid?

I am going to use CSS to define a header that will repeat on each page when printed. I need to have the <thead> tags around the header row and <tfoot> tags around the footer. will the <asp:TemplateColumn> allow me to define tags outside of the <tr> row tag?

I know this is an old post, but was this ever solved? I'm trying to do exactly this (the thead and tbody are required for an attached htc). I can add code to the form onload to "massage" the rendered html through document.all.item("<control>").outerHTML but I'd prefer to do it this way.

As always any help would be appreciated.

If you're struggling with the same problem I was there's a nice example of a solution at Cutting Edge. Check out Figure 1 (the render method).
