Composite Control not getting the design features for the DataGrid control1/14/2005 7:06:41 PM

Hi,

I made a composite control which consists of a datagrid and a button. But I am not able to get the design time appearance of the control. Meaning when I drag the control from the toolbox it does not appear as a datagrid.

If it is a true composite one e.g custom control which has DataGrid and Button as child controls, that's just normal because the control isn't a DataGrid. On such case, you should set all the propeties etc for it like it is with DataGrid (designers, editors and so on). If you'd want it still to behave like one without doing any extra work, you should derive from Datagrid.

However, this applies if you mean getting all the template editing features of DataGrid. If you just mean that anything isn't visible and you just want that the grid & button is visible then you can start with building a composite control designer.

Actually I do have a composite control designer. I will post it when I get home. When I use the designer against any composite control then it displays it as a design view in VS.net but when the composite control contains the datagrid It does not display the datagrid as a design view but it displays it as a dot.

OK,

do you also bind the DataGrid in designer e.g you have overridden GetDesignTimeHtml and you bind the grid with a dummy data source (to generate the design-view HTML for it), and you then return to back as it was (you don't want to actually modify the binding of the grid for user. but only provide the HTML for design view)?
