Causing validation

Hi all,

I am completely lost: I am trying to find/remember how you would get the script for the client side to initiate validation. For example, if I had to make a LinkButton from scratch, how would I (on the client side) call the following code:



if (typeof(Page_ClientValidate) != 'function' ||  Page_ClientValidate()) { ... }

I just can't remember where it was :-$ . One way would obviously be to include the above in my output but that is a cheat... I am not sure if I can remember if I "knew" it once existed as a quick constant or something. I dunno' -- stupid amnesia.

Page framework itself uses it in pretty hardcoded manner. :-)

With LinkButton it goes pretty much like using an internal Util class that does something like following:



internal static string GetClientValidatedPostback(Control control)


{ 


string text1 = control.Page.GetPostBackEventReference(control);


return string.Concat("{if (typeof(Page_ClientValidate) != 'function' || Page_ClientValidate()) ", text1, "} "); 


}

And it is added to the href attribute something like:



if (this.CausesValidation && (base.Page.Validators.Count > 0))


{


 writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Href, string.Concat("javascript:", Util.GetClientValidatedPostback(this)));


return; 


}

Same Util class has generic GetClientValidateEvent method:



internal static string GetClientValidateEvent(Page page)


{ 


   return "if (typeof(Page_ClientValidate) == 'function') Page_ClientValidate(); "; 


}

which is for purposes when __doPostBack does not need to be called (with Button or ImageButton and so on)
