I'm trying a new approach for my previous post http://www.asp.net/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?tabindex=1&PostID=381596


I would like to have a dll, which is registered in the aspx page, such as,


<%@ Register TagPrefix="xpto" Namespace="SomeNamespace" Assembly="somedllfile" %>


This dll accepts some properties that define which connection to use, which DB, table and fields to retrieve.
What I'm looking for is that this dll returns a datagrid.

So, where in the aspx I have

<xpto:DisplayProducts runat="server" />

I would like that a datagrid containing the products is displayed.


I have tried some different approaches, including "HtmlTextWriter output", "Page.Controls.Add" but obviously
without success.
Any suggestion?

What does your method in the DLL return? A string?

Have you considered creating a web custom control and subclassing the DataGrid?

This is how I make my controls:

They inherit from the Control class. In the CreateChildControls(), i declare new asp.net objects, i modify them and the load them up. In this way, they load up in the page.
For example here's a simple control that loads up a datagrid:

newDtGrid.AllowPaging = True
'To Add the control to the page after you're done, use this line:
Me.Controls.Add(newDtGrid)

What I'm suggesting is that instead of subclassing Control, subclass DataGrid. Have you tried something like that?
