Is it possible to create a webpart in sharepoint (consist of a custom usercontrol) in multiple languages ?

And if so, how to do that ?

 

Can i work the same as you would do in asp.net by overriding the InitializeCulture method?

Or should we do that completely different in Sharepoint?

Hi,

I don't think there is an InitializeCulture method but you can manually do it for sure. Here is an article that describes how to do that: http://madhurahuja.blogspot.com/2006/09/localization-in-webparts_02.html

If you want to allow your users to change the language then you will just not read the culture settings from web.config but will set them on some button click (when user selects a different language).

Another option would be to create different skins (ASCX) for different languages and to set skins per user. You can check BaseSkinnedWebPart and see if that would work for you: https://www.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ProjectName=aspnetlibrary&ReleaseId=10932
