Hi,

I just moved to a new machine that arrived ghosted with (deep breath) Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Software Developers Version 8.0.50727.762 (SP.050727-7600) installed.

In this installation, there are no web application project templates so I can't create a new one, and my existing web application projects fail to load, with the error message ?The project type is not supported by this installation.?

Searching for that error message in these forums and the wider web yields some suggestions for installing the Web Application Projects add-in to Visual Studio, and other places pointing out that that add-in was deprecated by SP1, so I should just install SP1 and I'll be all set.

Except, I already have SP1, as far as I can see, and I'm not all set.

Any clues as to how to troubleshoot this? Or even how to work around it? Should I try installing the deprecated WAP support?

Resolved. I tried reinstalling SP1 on the off chance that that might help. Lo: it did. There must have been something wrong with the SP1 installation when the ghost image was created, and reinstalling got it back on its feet.

I previously tried devenv /setup as suggested here; that did not help, so I grit my teeth and started the SP1 install. It took less than an hour this time --- this new machine is starting off well. :)
