Ok, so i've got VSTS/D, and I've installed the update for WAP, and i've installed the WAP project itself.  There were no errors or indications of problems, but when I create a new project, there is no WAP Template.  I've tried the /InstallVSTemplates option, and that hasn't had any effect.  There do not appear to be any templates in the Template folder that correspond to WAP.  What could be wrong?

 I'm running on XP SP2.

So you don't see templates by the name of "ASP.NET Web Aplication"? Can you see a zip file called WebApplication.zip in the folder: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\Web?

No.  There are no templates for a web application.  Further, there isn't even a Web folder" under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\CSharp (or VisualBasic)

In that case I suggest you to download and re-install WAP again. Make sure you follow the process as instructed in the given link:

I've installed, uninstalled it, and re-installed it 3 times.  And on two different systems.  Same result.

 I can see in Add/remove programs both the "Update for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Software Developers - ENU (KB915364)" and "Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Web Deployment Projects", so they're definately installed.

 The other system was my vista install (with UAC disabled).  Both had the exact same results.  The vista install was virgin too, I installed it, then immediately ran the update and WAP installers.

 What "process" are you referring to.  There is no process, other than applying the Update and the WAP, as far as I can see.

You installed "Web Deployment Projects" instead of "Web Application Projects".  They are different.  You need to install:
