Unable to load web project1/18/2007 5:46:41 AM

0

I'm getting the following error trying to load a Web Application Project from a server share. I am using VS 2005 SP1.

 ---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio
---------------------------
Unable to read the project file 'StaffPortal.vbproj'. The Web Application Project StaffPortal is configured to use IIS. Could not find the server 'http://www.appdev.unisa.edu.au' on the local machine.

The remote server's netbios name is different to the URL, but they both map to the same machine and IP address.

I also have IIS 7.0 on my local workstation (Running Vista RC2)

Other developers who are using Windows XP are able to load this project successfully.

Any ideas?

You should try configuring IIS to use the IIS6 Compatability tools.  Specifically the WMI option.  VS cant recognise IIS7 properly yet.

Hi Philip,

I had already enabled "IIS 6 WMI Compatibility" and "IIS Metabase and IIS6 Configuration compatibility" in the Windows Features.

I've also used Visual Studio 2005 to build another project and launch it in IIS7, so I think the compatibility stuff is working as far as I can tell.

So the project is actually on a remote machine not your local?

Can you navigate to 'http://www.appdev.unisa.edu.au' ?

The Netbios error is not something i have seen before.

What happens if you Google the message?  Any KB articles on it?

Yes, the project is on a remote server.

Just to clarify, the error dialog text was just the first paragraph (should have made that clearer).. eg.

Unable to read the project file 'StaffPortal.vbproj'. The Web Application Project StaffPortal is configured to use IIS. Could not find the server 'http://www.appdev.unisa.edu.au' on the local machine.

The NetBIOS text was my comment!

Yes, I can browse to to the URL ok, and no, couldn't find anything at all on Google - a bit disappointing that it didn't even return a match for any Visual Studio documentation.
