AJAX Control Toolkit ans VWD 2008 Express Problems12/14/2007 9:09:49 PM

I am having a real tough time with AJAX Control Toolkit and Visual Web Developer 2008. Here is what I did:

1. Create new website (Selecting "ASP.NET Website" from templates. This adds a Default.aspx as expected)
2. Add Tab to Toolbox (calling it AJAX Control Tools)
3. Right click on Toolbox and click on "Choose Items..."
4. Select "Browse" option
5. Browse to C:\Program Files\AJAX Controls Toolkit\SampleWebSite\Bin
6. Select "AjaxControlToolkit.dll"
7. Select Ok. I now expect to see the AJAX Control widgets appear in the Toolbox - nothing, nada, zilch!!

When I right click on the Toolbox and select "Show All" the widget appears greyed out in the AJAX Control Toolkit tab.

I have event tried recompiling the source and resetinh the version number as mentioned elsewhere in this forum, to no avail.

I am about ready to give up on VWD (and vuisual studio for that matter) and move to a pure Java environment
Thx in advance

PS - I have tried the same sequence with the Gaia Toolkit with the same disappointing results

Hi Oosty,

I sent you a PM, but lets try to see if we can maybe figure out what's going on here. I am going to ask you a a few question, and will try to troubleshoot what's hapenning.

1. Which OS are you running?

2. Are you seeing regular AJAX controls in AJAX extensions tab?

3. Which toolkit exactly did you download? I would recommend trying to use the latest pre-compiled binary from http://www.codeplex.com/AtlasControlToolkit/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=8513 , you want AjaxControlToolkit-Framework3.5-NoSource.zip .

 4. Controls only show up while you are in ASPX page. They won't show up while you are in JS page, or HTML page. You have to be in Default.aspx (or such).

5. You should give the page a few seconds after you open it for controls to show up. Just to be safe, please open an ASPX page, and give it a full minute just to see what happens.

Please let me know what your answers to the above questions are and if any of my suggestions helped, and we will go from there.

 Thanks,

Alex

Alex,

Thanks for taking time to reply to me. I though that the problem maybe with the Express Edition, so I uninstalled, downloaded the VS2008 Pro Trail edition and installed that. I then repeated the whole process as decribed i my original post. Same results. As a matter of fact, I don't see the Ajax Extensions tab unless I select "Show All" - and even then the items are greyed.

Here is the answers to your questions:

1. WIndows XP Version 2002 SP 2

2. No. Have to do "Show All" and even then the items are greyed-out.

3. That is the version I downloaded.

4. In VWD 2008 EE I selected the ASP.NET Web App template. In VS2008 Pro (Trail), I selected C#->Web. In both cases I got the default.aspx page.

5. After 10 minutes of not interacting with the IDE at all, everything is still greyed.

Thanks,
Chris
