How come when you test your site offline it works perfectly but the moment you upload i get numerous errors?

 

This has to be the most frustrating part of VS2005 or .Net

 

can someone enlighten me

 

Am i doing something wrong?

Do i need to do something to make it online ready?

my point is that i am getting errors in the first place.

 

Why does that happen?

 

If it works offline why shouldn't it work 100% perfect online?

Perhaps connection string is different for hosted database vs. local database?

maybe that your hosting company doesn't have activate frameworks, or other parts so that .net not working. When you work off-line you have all dll running on your computer. That does'nt mean that those files are active on the server. So you must contact your hosting company. I had the same problem but they have activate the things. The only thing I can't use is the report because it's a third party DLL what is not standard in ASP

If you have just been testing on Cassini the development server that ships built into VS 2005 then you may run into some issues as it is only a development enviroment specifically.  Web hosts will be using IIS so there may be quite a few differences in the production setup there and what you have been running locally on cassini.

If you are developing a site that is going to be at some stage put ont a production server then you should really at least test your web app with a like setup.

That would be my assumption of your errors.

My hosting company advertised ASP.net support when I signed up. I had a site working fine on a local intranet server using IIS but it failed on upload. Turned out the host was running ASP.NET 1.1 as the default even in 2007. Also some hosts do not support MS SQL only Access even with ASP.NET 2.0. I suggest a long chat with your host.
