VWD Hangs when opening file!!!6/19/2006 9:07:17 PM

-Win XP Pro.

I am getting extremely frustrated with this software. I'll be working on a project open a couple files, make some changes (la dee da life is good, la dee dee da), and go to open some file to edit via the Solution Explorer.. and the darn thing just hangs (!$$%!@#). Nobody has the file open elsewhere on the network so it's not a concurrency issue (not that I would expect any quality software to hang there either)... it just decides to never open the file and I have to go to Task Manager to end the process. What's more, just restarting VWD seems not to help, I have to log off and back on or restart the machine to be able to open another file.

The file is on a network share, but I can navigate there just fine and open the file in Notepad just fine...

I've uninstalled/re-installed VWD to no avail. Please help!!

What kind of file you are opening? Are there assemblies in bin on a network share? I would also recommend trying the following in order to isolated the problem:

1. Try copying files locally as opposed using network share and see if it makes a difference.

2. If you are running Anti-Virus or Ani-Spyware software, try disabling them temporarily.

3. Check if CPU activity is high - i.e. if VWD hang in a loop or is it waiting for a network IO.

It wouldn't happen to be a C# file with generics would it? There is a bug in C# that was fixed in a QFE where it would hang if you opened a file with that construct.
