VWD and Microsoft Access10/4/2007 11:44:31 AM

I am new to VWD. I want to bring in tables created in Access but then once into VWD I want to be able to modify relationships and perhaps even modify the column headings.

I originally created a database using Access which is being used but now I want to create a new database using VWD but the only information I want from the Access database is what is contained in the tables.

Does anyone know of a way to do this? Looking forward to your replies.

You are going to be out of luck, I'm afraid.  VWD's support for Access is extremely limited.  It doesn't provide the sort of functionality that permits you to modify schema information for Access in the same way as you can for Sql Server/Sql Server Express.

Similar question but different....

Is there a way of just retrieving the data from my access database. I notice that in Access you can export table data in many different formats. What would be the best one if I just wanted to import the data. I want to create a brand new database but don't want to lose the data.

If it is possible to import the data how do I go about it.

Sorry Mike if that is what you meant in your answer.

I'm not quite sure what you mean.  If you want to do this in VWD, you can't.  If you want to copy some tables from a database to a new one, just create the new one and drag and drop between them.

Sorry didn't explain very well. I wanted to import the data from the tables in an Access Database into a VWD database.

I am now starting to understand how to access the data in the Access Database. I wanted to start from scratch because the books spend more time explaining how to create tables and show how you can use the management tool which isn't available when using Access database tables.

Many thanks again for your help.

Ah.  VWD database = SQL Server database.  Download and install Sql Server Express (free) and the Sql Server Migration Assistant for Access.  Fiddle around with those and you should be good to go.
