VSW expired unexpectedly.7/9/2004 1:26:09 PM

Hi,

Last week, I installed and run VWD successfully. Just yesterday, for an unrelated purpose, I set my system date to year 2005. Then when I run VWD, it says the beta period has expired and closes itself. So, I changed my system date back to current date; however, VWD still gives me the same error message and refuse to run.

What should I do now ? I don't want to reinstall it. Hope that someone from Microsoft can help me on this.

If you can reverse the timeout of the product, than everyone can hack the Express so they can use it as long as they want, without reaching the end of the ?testing? period.

I also think it's a miss of Microsoft of using the date to see if the product have been used to long, I would be better if they used a day counter.

I think you have to reinstall VWD.

Agreed. Can't understand why MS made such a mistake. They should use a day counter instead of the unreliable system date.

Visual Studio uses both date and duration based expiration to best enable the objectives of that release. The alpha and beta versions are date based and expire 90 days after the next scheduled beta. This helps ensure beta testers upgrade to the latest public version, guaranteeing a more stable product for the beta tester and more timely feedback for Microsoft. The trial versions are duration based and expire 90 days after first launch. This gives a potential customer three months from first usage to try the products capabilities.

Since Visual Studio was launched after the expiration date, and the application wrote an ?expired? private key, you?ll need to reinstall.
