Second Try (But dont expect any help here)12/28/2005 5:15:18 AM

0/0

Ok I guesss Ill give it one more try before just saying the hell with it and going to PHP.

Now lets try this one more time.

Has anyone had trouble installing Visual Web Developer 2005 Express?

The setup.exe is hanging and not installing. It stays on the screen that says
"
Setup is loading installation components
This may talk a minute or two.
"

So Anyone?

Dear Nagash,

I'm sorry to hear this.

Can you provide more details of your machine and OS?  Also, did you have VWD or Visual Studio Beta on this machine earlier?

Hi Ok,

here is the deal.

I did have the beta installed but it was uninstalled before downloading Vs Express. I have also used the tools in this page (http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2005/10/27/485987.aspx). All report everything is good.

here is what the ttool.exe reports

"The troubleshooting tool did not find any problems from the database of known issues on this computer.
"

here is wht vs_uninst_betas.exe reports:
"We did not find specified products to be uninstalled. "

Here is what "the hammer" vs_uninst.exe reports back

"We did not find specified products to be uninstalled. "

So Now what?

I have to start with something and if I go the PHP way we will not go back to .NET

I would love to go the .NET way but these problems dont make MS look to good.

I already installed PHP mysql apache and are all ready to go. Took me 10 minutes to install. Now I am thinking of getting ZEND development but if I do .NET will not be part of our solutionzs.

Please help ASAP.

here is my comp info.

XP SP2
1.80 GHz, 512 MB ram

If you have uninstalled the beta before downloading and followed the instructions, then I'm not sure why you are seeing this issue.

Can you do the following:

1. Do you have a second clean machine where you could try the install?

2. Can you check your %program files% location to see if there's a Microsoft Visual Studio 8 directory in there before you do the install?  if so, nuke this directory and retry.

3. Can you also confirm whether you are running setup directly from the server or downloading the setup exe locally and then running it locally?

Does vwdsetup.exe download from the net?

Could this be the problem?

What excatly does vwdsetup.exe do?

Why does posting to this Forum take so darn long? Is there another better forum that you can get quiker responses?

MS does want people to use .NET right?

vwdsetup.exe is the setup program for Visual Web Developer.  You can either run it from the web directly or copy it locally and run it.  I hope that installing locally solves your problem.  Keep me posted.

Can you explain about the performance problems with posting to this forum?  I'm not having any delays in posting.  I'll have somebody look into this once you send me the details.

The problem persists on 2 different computer CANNOT install Visual Web Developer 2005 Express.

The vwdsetup.exe hangs on the screen

"
Setup is loading installation components
This may talk a minute or two.
"

So I guess Ill go the PHP way. Since no one aperantly can figure out whats going on.

Thanks MS for pointing me the way/.

I was just reading over your statemnent " You can either run it from the web directly or copy it locally and run it."

vwdsetup.exe is a download IT has to run on the local machine. Im not sure what you are talking about.

I go to :
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/vwd/default.aspx

Click download (downloads a file named
vwdsetup.exe)
It is saved on the desktop.
I double click on it.

It does it thing and then Hangs 85% done on

"
Setup is loading installation components
This may talk a minute or two.
"

So is there ANY SOLUTION (Example Yes NO, We dont care..., Tyr this Etc.....). Or should I just give up trying to install this and go the PHP/MYSQL way.

What I'm referring to is the dialog that comes up when you download vwdsetup.exe.  You get a choice to run, save or cancel.  I'm saying don't choose run directly, but save locally to your hard drive and run from there.  It sounds like you may already be doing this.

I'll check with a few people on the setup team as to what your issue may be.  Sorry that you are having so much trouble in setting up VWD.

Have you tried downloading the ISO images and building your own install CDs?

From what I hear, that's a good idea in general, because free VWD web install will be discontinued later this year.

I would but dont you have to buy software to put the iso images on cd? Can they be burned to DVD?

Hey Nagash,

Try downloading the image files from here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/install/

That way should you have to install at a later time you will not have to register like you have to using the vwdsetup.exe.

You will definitely need CD or DVD burning software.  The installation should not care if it's run from CD or DVD.
