Hey All,

 I'm starting my journey into Visual Studio via C#.  I just received my copy and am having a hard time installing it.  When I enter the DVD, it usually hangs my computer.  If I am able to get to it through explorer, there is no setup.exe or readme.html.

 Someone please help me get this thing installed already!

Forgot to mention that this is the Academic version.

Make sure your computer is up to date at http://update.microsoft.com

Let us know your operating system and general specs of your computer.

I dont think this is your problem but do make sure your disk is genuine.

And also are you getting to main installation screen? or does the computer hang as soon as you insert the disc? If so what happens if you were to put a movie in the drive?

There wont be any readme files on the disc that are directly accessable as it does not contain any data formats. The disc should be in a format like .iso witch is a DVD image ( single file ) you need to install that before you can get access to any other files (that will be installed to your hard drive)

If you can insert the disk (with out a load attempt or autorun) and then get to "my computer" (xp) or "computer" (vista) can you see the details of the DVD? If so what is the name of the file? And if you right click and select properties what format is it in? ( again it should be .iso)

Let me know how you get on.

 First check your configuration of hardware

whether you are having enough disk space on your comp and having 1gb ram

and also check you are having installation rights for your user or not or try to do installation with administrator login 

and you can find read me with name "readme.htm" on dvd , please search it 

Copy installation folder to your hard drive and see what happens....

I have more than system requirements and I have all the microsoft updates up to date.  I cannot copy the setup files onto my hard drive because as soon as I insert the disk and try to access the files on the disk, the dvd freezes while I am able to do other things.  For example, my dvd player is frozen now and my desktop and taskbar are missing.  I just happened to have this firefox browser open at the time of the incident.

 I have an IBM Thinkpad X60 1.8 core 2 duo w/ 2gb of ram and 70GB or HDD.

 
My genuine copy academic version freezes as well as the 90 day trial ISO image that I downloaded from Microsoft and burned the image to a dvd.  Please help me.  I'm thinking about resorting to a new computer, but this is pretty new.

As others have mentioned, be sure your PC meets the requirements and is up to date with patches.  If you have installed a trial or beta version, go into your control panel's add/remove programs section and remove what's installed of it first. 

 My computer def. meets the minimum requirements [1.8 ghz core 2 duo, 2gb ram, 70gb hdd]  and I do have the latest patches applied.  I do not have any trial or beta versions installed.  that wouldn't explain why my entire computer freezes when I pop in the dvd and try to access the files.  Maybe it's a hardware issue??

Possible, do you see similar hangs when launch other heavyweight programs?

Have you checked via task manager (or, better, process explorer) if it is just a matter of the system being heavily loaded? 

Perhaps setup conflicts with Antivirus software? If you are running AV, try stopping it temporarily. You can also try disabling background applications if you have some running.

Have you tried to open it in other computer?
Because you said that it hangs in your computer, I think there is a problem with DVD media.
If you can open it in other computer, just back it up or copy the installation files to your removable harddrive and open it in your computer.
