Hi,
I just moved from developing on VS Web developer Express to full blown Orcas today. Now everything appeared to install correctly and I was able to develop continue developing my website. However in Orcas when I double click on a .mdf file, it just appears as a text file, no database explorer or anything. In the tools menu, "connect to database" and "connect to server" do not do anything.
As a result I tried to download SQL Server 2005 express edition - which I have discovered is not for Newbs like myself. This installation has stopped Visual Web devloper Orcas working. The web server included with Web developer is now unable to access my .mdf files: double clicking on aspnetdb.mdf brings up the following error:
"Generating user instances in SQL server is disabled. Use sp_configure 'user instances enabled' to generate user instances."
I have therefore broken all of my sql server access by the combined installation of SQL Server 2005 express and ORCAS.
Any ideas of what to do. I'm running XP Professional edition, by the way.
Steve
