I have a few questions regarding how I'm using VS2005 Pro when working on classic ASP projects. The IDE behaves VERY slowly and hinders our productivity in certain cases.
* When working with remote client sites developed in classic ASP we using the Open Website method, and connect (via FTP or HTTP depending on the host).
1) Sometimes it takes up to 10 minutes to close VS when a project is open. It's like it's trying to cleanup or parse all the files or something. Odd thing is there is very little network traffic during this hangtime. Eventually it will close cleanly.
2) It takes several minutes to open certain non-ASP files like .CFG etc for the first time. Opening ASP files are quick. I know a CFG isn't common in a web project but the same thing happened on a .XSL file.
3) When opening a solution with two remote website projects in it, dialog boxes are prompted to login for each -- hitting Cancel on one doesn't stop VS from continuing to ask for a login two more times. Is this just an anoyance we have to live with?
4) Anyone know if there's a trick to remembering the login credentials (Remember Me) for VS projects or a patch to do so in the works soon?
5) The help system never shows any remote matches for classic ASP functions (when hitting F1 contextually). Misconfiguration? .NET functions all work fine.
Thanks all for your insight and tips!
