Hi Bash,

Yep, I'm creating a new file system web.  I try to add a new master page (R-click on project --> new item --> master page) and use default name.  Click OK and the error described above appears.

Same thing (and method) when I try to add a webform.

I've been able to do both these things in the past.  Nothing new on my machine and I haven't yet installed the final version in any way.

Strangely though if I try to add other items they will add.  Here is the complete list of what I can and cannot add to a project:

Can add:
HTML page, Stylesheet, XML file, Assembly Resource File, JScript file, XSLT file, Class Diagram, Global Application Class, SQL Database, Site map, VBScript file, Skin file, Web Configuration File, Text File, Crystal Report, Report, Mobile Web Configuration File, Browser File

Can't add:
Webform, Generic Handler, Mobile Web form, Master Page, Web Service, Mobile Web User Control, Web User Control, Class, Dataset

Hi, I am getting the same problem.

I am using xp home edition.

Any help/suggestion would be really appreciated.

If any one knows any work around, please share.

Bash suggested this offline:

"Apparently there's a few programs like paint.net that register empty keys for some file extensions in the registry. There could also be a value set for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT itself that may cause this issue. If you have installed one of these programs, that can combine with a Beta2 bug that we had to cause this behavior. This bug has been fixed in our final release. So you could run regedit and check your HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT in your registry and make sure that the value is not set. Second thing you could do is to upgrade to the final RTM version of Visual Studio and the .NET framework."

When I checked HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT I did have a value in there.  Deleting this solved the problem.
