When I try to get a web site to a new development machine, I get these errors when trying to open the website (locahost): (the first error is what I get when I try to "change source control", the second is when I try "get"):

Microsoft Visual Studio
---------------------------
Unexpected error encountered. It is recommended that you restart the application as soon as possible.  Error: Unspecified error File: vsee\pkgs\vssprovider\cmsscciabstractionlayer.cpp Line number: 5906
---------------------------
OK

By the way, I've already seen the thread at: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=336704&SiteID=1

Our project has neither an SUO file or an SLN file.... It's just an "Open from the web: local IIS/default" project.

Help?

WORKAROUND (NOT A FIX):

OK. Here's a workaround to the problem.

When you need to create a new website (or copy an existing website from one computer to another for development) and use localhost:
  1. Rename the "localhost" directory in "My Documents/Visual Studio 2005\Projects" to "localhost_projectName".
  2. Create a new web site with VS2005 in IIS/Default (after using IIS Manager to point to a new, empty directory)
  3. Open "File/Source Control/Change Source Control..." and
  4. bind the "http://loalhost/" Soluntion/Project to the SourceSafe project you want.
  5. Leave the "Solution: localhost.sln" unbound
  6. Right-click on "http://localhost/" in the Solution Explorer window to open the context menu and
  7. Click on "Get Latest Version (Recursive)

When you want to change back to the original project (from the step 1 rename):
  1. Rename the "localhost" directory in "My Documents/Visual Studio 2005\Projects" to "localhost_otherProjectName"
  2. Rename the "localhost_projectName" back to "localhost"
  3. Use IIS Manager to point the default IIS instance back to the original directory
  4. Open VS2005 and open the IIS/Default web site

WHAT A PAIN, but it works. AND Gets around this, in my opinion, serious limitation/BUG in VS2005.

UNLESS I'm missing something here.
