Visual Studio crashes when I edit a stylesheet7/16/2007 8:26:01 AM

Has anyone come across a situation where VS (with SP1) crashes when then edit a style sheet for the loaded website.

This is VS 2005 with SP1, with a web project. The web site is not running. I have a master page setup, the css was from a expression web migrated project.

Any thoughts.

Hi simonsabin,

From description, I understand that when you open and edit a style sheet file, Visual Studio 2005 will crash. For this scenario, I would like to know it occurs for editing all the style sheet files, or just the style sheet file in this project.

1. If Visual Studio will crash when editing all the style sheet files, this issue is mostly caused by third party application, service or Add-in.  

Please test the issue in Windows Safe Mode. In addition, please run Visual Studio in Safe Mode by inputting "devenv /safemode" in Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt. This method can disable third-party applications, services, and add-ins for Visual Studio that may cause the problem. 

2. If Visual Studio will crash just for opening the style sheet file in this project, this issue is relate to the project. Please create a new web project and add the files from the original project to the new one by right clicking project and then select ?Add | Existing Item??.

Hi Benson,

I'm also experiencing frequent crashes when trying to save a CSS file in VS2005 SP1. I have the application opened as a Web Site and I'm using Visual SourceSafe for the project. Not sure if this matters, but I have dual monitors and have been using VS2005 on the secondary monitor.

My stylesheet starts with an @import and pulls in a stylesheet on the web, then has a dozen or more styles defined below the import.

I'll test the application in safe mode, as you suggested. The crash seems to occur when I attempt to save the CSS file, not when opening it.
