I use Visual Studio (and Visual Web Developer 2005) for a couple of applications. The file sizes for the aspx pages are around 180k (and separate CS file about 22k). The problem I have is that regardless of the machine, operating system, amount of memory and other configuration, Visual Studio (and Visual Web Developer 2005) process starts growing and over time (usually within 10 minutes) grows as large as 1.9GB and then I lose all my work if I do not exit the application before it reaches over 1.2GB. The application gets really slow and eventually stops working. I have this same issue on at least 5 machines that I tried. Can anybody tell me if there is a fix for it? It is becoming very annoying.

It appears to happen ofetn after you copy or paste controls, I had a hell of a time yesterday with going into edit mode for a datalist. It crashed every time but not if I was editing other controls (Gridview or menu). As far as the size of the ASPX files, I have an aspx file  which is 420k in size. Size of the file obviously effects performance but not the memory leak. Another interesting thing is that the 180k aspx file uses a master sheet and 420k file does not! I am not sure if this has anything to do with it.

One other interesting note is that I just combined the master page with the aspx page (master no longer is used) and I am able to work and I do not see the symptom.

I think I spoke a little too soon. It seems like the Master page does not make any difference. The difference is when you switch from Source to Design. If you stay in design long enough you will see this condition. if you switch to source view then the memory is released. The cycle repeats if you switch back to design mode.
