Toolbox screwed up and CANNOT reset! Help!9/29/2006 5:12:52 PM

Ok, I've read lots of posts about how to get icons and/or tabs back in the toolbox by resetting it.  The problem I'm having is that every time I do that Visual Studio crashes.  When I restart it the toolbox is exactly the same.  Some of my tabs are missing completely, including the Common Controls tab.  Also, some of the tabs include code snippets that I did not put there.  It appears that they were auto-added from my existing code.  In some cases there are 30-40 snippets in a tab...  So how do I get this thing back to where it should be?  Is there a registry edit I can do?  Obviously reset toolbox won't work for me.

Hmmm...  Still can't get anywhere on this.  Does anyone here know what I might be able to do to fix this?  If not, can you at least point me to somewhere with people who could help me out with this?

Since toolbox is not normally crashing on reset, I assume cached settings and toolbox data in your user folder got corrupt. Try deleting Microsoft\Visual Studio\8.0 folders under Documents&Settings\you_user_name\Local Settings\Application Data and under Documents&Settings\you_user_name\Application Data. Then run

devenv /setup

devenv /resetsettings

from command line in Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE
