Why is vs 2005 telling me this? There is hardly any information on the internet about this problem. the only solution I've seen is that my project HAS to resolve to a URL in order for it to build. If that is that case, that is BAAAAAAAAAAD microsoft. Can anyone help me with this?

hi i have the same problem :-D

configuration:

##server###
IIS 6.0
frontpage2002
remote debugging server
on win2k3 server

###working###
winxp
vs2005 sp1 pro

IIS has a website with port 800 and frontpage extension. connecting via vs2005 over remote http is no problem, changing files work. when I start to build I get the same error no virtual path. what can I do ? oh, the project type is website.

Visual Studio 2005 doesn't let you build a website that runs on http://servername:portnumber anymore.

Visual Studio 2003 would allow this. To get around this when using VS 2005, I've just been setting up my websites on different local IPs, or creating local DNS A records that resolve to the web servers IP address and setting an additional host header in IIS. You can build the website if you login to the IP address, and you can build the website if you login to some DNS A record name that you created that points to the IP address. But no more building a website running on servername:portnumber anymore.

If anyone else has some information to contradict what i'm saying, i'd love to hear it.
