Reinstalling VS 2005 Upgrade on my New Computer.5/18/2007 5:30:45 PM

Hello everyone,

Well. I got some great news!!! It's my birthday Sunday and I have been working on my boss to get me an new Laptop computer! He informed me that the company will pitch in half to a max of 1,000 buckaroos.

I have just finished formating and reinstalling windows on my old IBM R40 Think Pad ="POS" and will be sending it out to a Regional Manager that needs it. In the mean time I'm working on a pretty good desktop that I would like to reinstall VS 2005 on and work on it till I get my New Laptop sometime in the next week or so (I hope) then I'll be formating & installing windows on the desktop as an upgrade to someone else. So I will have installed VS2005 on my Laptop then on a desktop then back on a laptop with in 2 weeks time.

My Question, Am I going to run into any multiple Installation Issues with Microsoft ? The new validation stuff on windows xp has me worried about VS 2005 doing the same.

How many installations of 2005 can I have? I've heard somewhere that your allowed two (one for your desktop and the other for your laptop) is this true?

Thanks everyone for helping me out with this question. Everyone have a great weekend!!

No. Visual Studio's EULA is a "per-user" license. Meaning that it can be installed on multiple machines, as long as it is the same user using it. Windows XP however, is a "Per Machine" license, meaning it can only be installed on computer.

You can install it on as many computers as you want, as long as you are the owner of the machine.

Well that being the case I don't have to worry about installing it on any of my computers.

Thanks VCSJones!

Just curios, Its hard to believe Microsoft would leave the door open for anyone to let my friend borrow and his friend borrow then multiple installations through out the world. What prevents that?

Thanks in advance.

RexRacer:

Nothing. VS does not have any "activation".
