Everyone is probably familiar with the "Design" and "Source" buttons in the IDE for viewing an .aspx page in VS2005, right? 

We're also familiar with the "View Code" item on the context menu of a page, right?

Well, I know nothing about programming for the IDE (so forgive what may be an extremely ignorant suggestion), but I would love to have a "Code" button down there in the lower left corner with "Design" and "Source" instead of opening another tab for what in my mind is conceptually another "view" of the same page (despite it being in another file).  Anyone have any idea how hard that would be to implement?

Pretty hard. Code editor and HTML editor (the latter shows tabs within its windows) are completely different entities and only exist in theoir own window frames. Design and Source tabs are the same editor which happens to have two views on the same data. Code is a different set of data owned by VB or C# editor (each language shares core text editor but provides different services like coloring or intellisense). Perhaps we'll look into this in VS10.
