Is it possible to create a web project (file system) in root in VS2005?1/16/2006 10:36:43 PM

0/0

Greetings my fellow developers:

I spent all weekend playing around and researching the net (i.e. searching google, MSDN help, and message boards) but could not find the answer. I simply want to create a web project in Visual Studio 2005 using the filesystem method (not local IIS, not remote IIS, etc) and have that project be at the root of the web. If I create a project "myweb" and put it in a folder "c:\myweb", the url becomes:

http://localhost:9384/myweb/default.aspx

Rather, I would like it to be (without the "myweb" subfolder)

http://localhost:9384/default.aspx.

Is this possible? I can do it if I connect to local IIS. But, since I work on multiple websites and my development is mostly on Windows XP (single instance of IIS only), I would prefer to use the dynamic web server included with VS2005. Any help seriously appreciated!

Sincerely,
Ben

Hi Ben,

I have a blog posting on how to-do this here: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2005/11/21/431138.aspx

Hope this helps,

Scott

Scott, you're a LIFE saver! I was still trying to figure it out last night. I'm surprised at how many steps must be taken to do something that ought to be default. But, as long as theres a work-around, I'm happy. Are you same Scott from MSDN (I read Scott's article on Web Projects on MSDN)? I'll definitely bookmark your blog as it seems very insightful. Thanks again for helping to bring my blood pressure down.

Cool stuff -- glad it helped!

I think I'm the same person as the MSDN article (several of my blog posting were re-printed there).  http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu is my regular blog with posts (usually every few days).

Enjoy!
