I can't view aspx web pages on my Windows Server 200312/1/2007 5:43:15 PM

0/0

I have a quick question.  I am using Visual Studio 2005 to create .aspx webpages. When I place the webpages on the Windows Server 2003 I get runtime errors when trying to view the extensions with aspx.  I experimented and created simple .asp and htm pages and they will appear fine.  I looked into the iis manager and saw that the asp.net was allowed.  Any ideas why this will not allow .aspx but allow (.asp and .htm)?

So far, I have spent over five hours researching this topic and need to get this working by Monday.

I am sure it is something quite simple.  Thanks in advance.

in aspx applications have to be set up in IIS:

In IIS Manager right click on your website, right click and view its properties.

Now click "Create" to create it as an application

Secondly you may need to change the framework version, select the .NET tab (if its not there theres a command it register the framwork with IIS) then select the version you need

Does it matter what version of the .Net Framework I am using?  1.1, 2.0, 3.5?

What error do you get? 500? 404? Do you create a website or use a virtual directory? Did you published or just copied the files?

I published the files to the webserver from Visual Studio 2005.  I also copied another website from Visual Web Developer 2008 Express to the same webserver.    The top of the screen is in red letterring and is "Runtime error", and I created a website.  I directs me a line number with code about configuration settings.  Unfortunately, I wont' be in the office until tomorrow morning for the exact error message.

Hey,

You probably need to set up the correct framework version in IIS.  Its probably on 1.1 where as you have developed it in 2?  If you developed it in 2008 its probably 3.5!

Tomorrow morning, please post the error, I'll be here! Also post the whole thing with the line of code on the web.config. In other words, just copy and paste into a post

I installed the 3.5 .NET onto the Windows Server and now all my aspx web pages work. My guess is that I did not install the .NET properly the first time. Visual Studio 2005, Visual Web Developer Express 2008 both now work perfectly.  Thanks everyone for you insight and quick responses to this important topic for me.   Cheers.
