I just did a fresh install of VS2005 Team Suite (this machine used to have VWE on it before). I've reinstalled 3 times now (uninstalling twice) but am having the same aggravating problem with my controls in the VS2005 IDE.

 If I open up a document, and simply insert an element like a Table, I don't see all the properties in the property panel. At the bottom of a shortened list there is a strange field: "xml:lang" and the value for it is: "Operation GetValue on the component did not succeed, generating the error code 0x80070057."

This shows up on just about all controls; even on existing pages that should be fine.

 What causes this error on a fresh install and how can I fix it??

I've narrowed the issue down to the HTML items like Tables, etc. The .NET Server Controls appear to be fine.

 What would cause the issue for the HTML Table elements (and whatever others)? Am I missing some schema (didn't install right??? 3 times??!!)?

It appears that XHTML 1.0 Transitional is the default setting in Tools > Options > Validation. If I select IE 6.0 then the "xml:lang" problem seems to go away. In the HTML source, the DTD is still XHTML 1.0 Transitional though (even on a new page after changing the setting to IE 6.0).

 Is there any problems with keeping the Validation setting to IE 6.0??

How you resolve this problem, I have one too, and i can't find that part "Validation"....

yes, but i can't find where you change from xhtml to i.e., Tools>Options>Validation, validation is missing, or i can't find it

 Here's a simpler way to find the fix:

--  Open up an ASPX page in VS2005

-- Make sure the Formatting toolbar is visible.

-- There is a drop down list that has all of the schemas you can validate against. Select the Internet Explorer 6.0 option. That should fix things.

yes, i see now...i it work, only thing is that i can't make visible background. i put background picture, and in design mode i see it, but in browser all is white...i don't know what is that (when i get that message xml_lang, than i lost my background)..thanks a lot
