When I attempt to open a web on my local machine (not using localhost -- our site depends on the URL to tell where it is and for security purposes), I get the following error:Sad [:(]

What is SharePoint Services and why is VS2005 trying to access it?

Oh, and there is NOTHING in the application event log!

I had to configure FrontPage Server Extensions.

Ran into problems there as well. We like to keep all our virtual servers under \inetpub\wwwroot

\inetpub\wwwroot\server1
\inetpub\wwwroot\server2
etc.

However, the system would not allow me to have a virtual server under \inetpub\wwwroot! Kept telling me that it was in a subfolder of a web (nested) EVEN THOUGH \inetpub\wwwroot IS NOT a web (i.e., the default web is located at \inetpub\wwwroot\server1!).  Once I moved my directory out from under \inetpub\wwwroot, then the extensions installed and I am now able to connect with Visual Studio....
