I'm updating an ASP.NET 2.0 application with Visual Studio 2005 beta 2.  The application has been working fine, it's been deployed successfully, etc.

I'm making some changes to the application, and have run it successfully earlier today.  However, in the middle of development, Visual Studio hung on me; after waiting a couple of minutes without a response, I killed it with Task Manager.  Now, however, my web application refuses to run, even after a reboot and a rebuild.  Trying to bring up any page in the application (even default.aspx, which is not what I was working on prior to the hang) yields an HTTP 404 response: "Server Error in '/PerfectBordersWeb' Application.  The resource cannot be found."  I've tried both the ASP.NET Dev Server from within Visual Studio, and direct with IE against IIS outside of Visual Studio.  I also rebuilt the entire solution, so all of the dependencies should have been freshly built.  I can access other web applications on this box, just not the one I was working on at the time of the hang.

Any ideas as to what might have happened?

I discovered the solution to this: it turns out that Visual Studio wrote a zero-byte app_offline.htm file to my application's directory.

I am having a similar problem, however it seems to be related to one file.  I get a 404 error for a file that was previously part of the site, but was deleted.  It seems VS2005 (beta 2) doesn't recognize the file as deleted, and keeps throwing the 404 error.  The file is not there,  and is no longer wanted, but the error occurs anyway. 

If I run the site directly in IIS 6 (Windows 2003), the error does not occur.

One other strange thing is that Windows Explorer Search does not find the file, but the Google desktop search does.

I finally re-created the file, and used a server.transfer away from it to work around the issue.  Maybe the RTM will fix it.

Any help with this?
