Getting started with .Text on WebMatrixHosting (Europe)6/30/2004 7:38:23 AM

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody here had experience with setting up .Text with WMH (http://europe.webmatrixhosting.net). Basically, I've got a simple box with WinXP (no IIS, MS SQL etc.), and I though, hmmm, maybe I'll try setting up a blog.

The instructions on the wiki seem pretty good, but I'm having a bit of trouble following them for my case. Could someone post up a quick rundown of how to setup .Text on a remote server, without having any servers installed on your own box.

PS: I'm also having trouble using the Aquarius Web interface for SQL on WMH, but that's kinda off topic =) - still, if anybody here uses WMH, perhaps they could give advice.

You need to have decent access to the machine in order to be able to setup the database, load the .Text files and run dottexthelper. If you have a way to create a database (sql server or msde), run a sql command file against the database, add a row to one of the database tables, and ftp the .Text files to your web site you should be able to do it.
