Can you include a blog from a different site?7/13/2004 12:25:17 PM

I am currently running a small blog community at http://blogs.red-abstract.com. It's been working great (after the initial hiccups) and I'm looking forward to 0.96 yadda yadda...

I also run another website that might benefit from the blog treatment. I expect there would be plenty of participation. I would prefer to set it up as a new community on a separate web in IIS.

But it would be better if I were a member of both sites with one blog. I would like for my one blog to be included on both aggregate sites. Is there any way to accomplish that?

Not that I know of using the standard .Text, but there are some blog tools that let you publish items to more than one blog I think. I'm no expert on IIS or ASP.NET or even .Text though :-)

Hmmm, yeah, I'm aware of using authoring options to publish to many blogs, but that would defeat the purpose of what I'm trying to do I guess. I don't think it would be entirely too hard to implement since .Text generates RSS feeds of everything and its brother all the way down to the category on a per-blog basis. If I can trick the aggregate site into accepting a different blog as an RSS feed, I bet it would work... ideas?

Take a look at BindData in Default.aspx.cs. The entries for the main page are bound to RecentPosts based on a stored procedure. Perhaps you can create your own sql statement to grab the correct blogs and just set the dataset = to your set.

o0h, that's precisely what I didn't want to hear ;)

I'm a VB.NET dev, not very good with c#, but I can manage.

I guess I would need to hard-code an RSS pickup for my blog, then continue to load the dataset from the rest of the thing.

Perhaps this is a feature that could be included in the future... if you're watching, Scott ;)
