Where to start after installing portal on local computer?12/3/2004 5:41:01 PM

Hallo,

now I have installed the starter kit portal from the starter cd getting from the roadshow "ASP.NET for beginners".

I have looked at the documents and code and have an information overload,
because the scale of the portal is to big for me at the moment.

How should I beginn to fullfill the following tasks?

I want to rewrite my existing homepage (current written in php) that means the menu structure (horizontal and vertical like the portal) and contents(curriculum vitae, photo gallery and project portal) are still existing.

Also I want to leave the existing portal installed by the msi packet as reference.

How could I copy database and code ?

How do you have managed it that the application is not under inetpub/wwwroot and can also be reache by localhost/ASPNETPortal?

Normaly if you make a new asp.net application the code is under this folder.

Thanks a lot in advance and

Best regards,

George!

Hi all,

please correct me if I make nonsense, but still now I have done following:
Also I have some questions at the end.

I copied the portal project (vb.net for vs) into another directory.
Than I add this directory to the IIS to get a virtual folder.

On the database I must make a new database on the same instance, for example called MyHomepage.
And in the web.config file I must correct the connectionstring in the <appSettings>
to the new database.

To copy the database portal i use export data (the wizard) in the enterprise console to copy the data from portal to MyHomepage.

But if I will select the destination database there are now database listed and if I press update the following error occurs:
[DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen(Connect())SQL server does not exists or access is denied.

Whats wrong (I have choosen windows authentification) in both databases?

And what must I do else do copy the portal code and database and to leave the original portal code and database ?

Thanks a lot in advance and

Best regards,
George!

Hi,

I have found a batchfile called "LocalFullInstall.bat" in the setup folder which look likes what I want: to have the db and project under another name?

But I have difficults to understand the parameters:

The project should be in the directory "Z:\Homepage Georg\MyASPHomepage" and should be called via http://localhost/asp.
The DB should be named as MyHomepage and I will be use windows authentification.

Here a code snipp from the batch file:

REM %1 Target Directory (local path on this local IIS server)
REM %2 Existing web site on Local IIS Server
REM %3 Name of Virtual Directory to create for Portal Application (existing one will be modified)
REM %4 Database Name on local DB server
REM %5 SQL user name for %4 as db owner
REM %6 SQL password for user specified by %5
REM %7 SQL "sa" password

Is the calling as following ?

LocalFullInstaller.bat "Z:\Homepage Georg\MyASPHomepage"

and than my knowledge is at the end -(

is the existing web site the alias name like asp after localhost ?

What ist the name of virtual Diorectory ?

Database Name is MyHomepage (in my case) but what should I set for sql user name, password and sa password if I want to use windows authentification ?

I am a litte confused, the document Cmd Installer.doc is not clear enough for me -(

Sorry for my beginner questions, but I am confused of this amount of parameters, because I have only used IIS and the wizard to add a website...

Thanks a lot in advance and

Best regards,
George!
