IBuySpy Portal for Oracle 9i1/20/2003 11:01:26 AM

0/0

Hi there,

Just to understand how this best practices application really works, I've migrated the IBS Portal (VB.Net version) to Oracle 9i.

I've converted all the code to generate the BD schema, including packages stored procedures, triggers, blob data, web farm support and so on. From SQL Server to Oracle 9i.

I've also changed the IBS components and desktop modules. As I don't have a way to test it, I've not migrated the mobile modules area yet.

If you're interested on developing this topic, please let me know and I'll upload the code to my personal website so you will be able to freely download it from there.

Best regards,
Hèctor

Hector, I would like to see this. I have a project coming up where I am going to have to connect to oracle (version 8 in my case) and pull some data into a portal mod. Your project might hellp me over come some of the obstacles I am sure to face.

Thanks Bruce

I would be interested in seeing your data access layer. Did you use the Oracle Client from Oracle? Microsoft? or straight oledb?

What needed to be changed in the desktop modules...just the reference to the sqlclient?

I'd be interested in your thoughts on any overall gotcha's to the implentation - places where IBS may be using "SQL Server Only" functionality.

Thanks,

Hi there again :)

It's been nice hearing from you so fast :D

Ok, that's right, I'll try to upload the code to my personal website tonight or tomorrow. I'll post a message at this thread to give you the URL.

By the way, I suppose I'll upload a .ZIP file containing both the .NET application code and the PL/SQL scripts.

I to would be interesting in developing for the portal in Oracle 8i or 9i since I am currently using 8i for some in house develop for customer connectivity down the road. I have a fair knowledge of the PL/SQL stuff and C# using MS Oracle.NET or Oracle.NET... at the moment I prefer use of the MS Oracle.NET due to other propietary software we use in house..

Hello again,

I'm sorry for being late, I've been a little stressed at work and that's why I've not uploaded the code yet.

I'll finally upload the code this weekend, so you'll probably be able to get it on Sunday or Monday.

Sorry for any inconvenience this delay could have created.

All the best,

Hello,

I've been trying to finish my website, but I've no time to do it, so let's go for gold ;)

If you're interested in my code, please go to this page:

http://www.rubiomarin.com/contact.aspx (don't read the faq, itsn't finished yet)

Fill in the form --I'm just asking for your name and email, as I'd like to know your emails to send you new releases, documents, and so on-- telling me you want the code, and I'll send you the URL of the .zip file with the code.

I'd like to do this in a more professional way but, you just want the code, so it's all right.

Has anyone received the script for ibuyspy on Oracle? I noticed this thread is a little dated and I haven't received a reply back from Hector.

Any help is appreciated, I'm under a bit of a time crunch (yeah, I know, me and everybody else)

TIA

Hello,

Yesterday's evening I sent all the people who filled up my contact form (http://www.rubiomarin.com/contact.aspx) the URL for the PL/SQL Scripts needed to create the Oracle Database Objects. Thank you for your comments! :)

This script includes creating the user, tables, sequences, triggers, packages with procedures, and of course data contents.

I'll try to send you today (or tomorrow) the zip file with the web app and some documentation.

Please wait till tomorrow to see the whole picture. Please use the contact form to call for the code, or this forum to discuss any other comment or doubt.

Again, sorry for being so late. I'm trying to do it faster but I'm a little stressed because I'm moving to a new flat, you know what happens :)

Thanks for being so patient. All the best,
Hèctor

P.S. BTW, does anobody have some code to easily import CLOB fields into a table? I've done the export code, but still trying the import one. :)

Hello again,

I've seen somebody asking for the Adapter I've used in my code. I've used the Microsoft .NET Data Provider for Oracle, as it fits the protal requirements properly (ref cursors, LOB support and so on), and the ODP.NET one from Oracle is still a beta release and also a bit heavy to download.

Of course, I didn't want to build the portal over a beta version.

Best regards,
Hèctor

hrubio, did you write a custom session object to support oracle?

Hi GradX,

I've not created this custom session object you are talking about to support oracle.

I've tried to make a conversion to Oracle without changing the IBS Portal philosophy, so I've just done this:

- I've generated the PL/SQL Scripts to develop users, tables, triggers, a package with stored procedures and so on. Just to have the Oracle version of the original PortalDB.sql file included in the IBS PortalVBVS release.

- I've developed new classes connected to Oracle under the Components folder.

- And after that, I've modified all the other project classes wherever a reference to the old SQLServer classes were done.

I've made some minor changes (Oracle and SQL Server are not equal, and I've added LOB support), but in essence both Oracle 9i and SQL Server are the same.

Apart from the original IBSP VB.NET version requiments, you may know you'll need to have also installed:

- Microsoft .NET Data Provider for Oracle
- Oracle 9i Client Server

And that's all by now.

All the best,
Hèctor
