"GetPortalSettings has too many arguments specified"9/8/2004 7:54:30 PM

I'm getting this error and I have no idea what I need to look at right now.

This site was setup 2 years ago on Webhost4life. Since then, WH4L had a server crash that killed the entire database and tehy couldn't recover it.

My client has since moved the site to another server and I provided them with an early version of the database. Same structure, but it's lacking alot of the data that they would have added.

When navigating to the site at www.kerrlighting.com, I receive this error:

"GetPortalSettings has too many arguments specified"

Any ideas?

It sounds like the version of code and the version of the db do not match. You can try to manually fix it by comparing the GetPortalSettings sprc with the code in configuration.vb, but it might be best to start over with a fresh set of everything.

thanks. that pretty much did the trick.

I braved the storm and rebuilt the portal component on my machine, and copied all files I had here to this old clients server. Basically, I had done their site so long ago I wasn't sure what was on their site and what I had as a backup. I barely recall how to configure things.

Now, I'm just stuck trying to figure out where request.application path gets it's info in desktopportalbanner.ascx since all of the tabs' paths are not pointing to the right place so I cannot admin the site.

Where do I find the info that builds the link for the tabs? I can't find it in the database, or any config files.

Do a search for the Application("AppPath") fix. Request.ApplicationPath was not reliable, so there was a workaround posted on here awhile back that had you modify your Global.asax.vb file to add Application("AppPath"). You can then reference Application("AppPath") anywhere you would have referenced Request.ApplicationPath (such as while creating tab links).
