Phase one is done!!!!11/6/2005 8:53:53 PM

Hi all,
I have completed the  first phase of modifying the Personal Web Site. - http://www.kernology.com
The goal of this phase was to learn:
Master Pages
Theme/Skin
ASP.NET 2.0 - new features of the framework.

I had done some playing and digging with the Community Starter Kit and it has some features that I want for my next phase - I want a framework admin interfaces that would allow me to remotely add/delete/update:
Links
Books
Pictures
Generic Content - such as a blog, what's new, other content
Changing Theme

Has anyone done these things and if so would you be willing to share some code?
I was thinking of starting with the code from the CSK - and redoing some of it in 2.0 - any hints/tips/gotcha's?

Thanks
Laurie

Hi Laurie,

Compliments on your site, that is a good transformation of the kit.

Di you use the C# or VB version?

Most of my work background int he professional field is Mainframe/Mid-Range and of course the legions of Coding and Scripting
 languages that come with them.

I have not made a final plan yet for where I want to take my site as it stands I am using the default and just adding to it.

#1 thing I have to figure out is how to improve the Photo Album Random image on the default page, that thing is a killer.

#2 Well find a true host for .NET 2.0 , I am using dotnetpark right now. They are ok but I have issues with running
1.1 and 2.0 on the same domain.

#3 Hope that Microsoft does not completly gut the current Architecture and all these beta's will become useless and
non-functional.  If they do that, I will write them off once and for all!

#4 ... Try to forget as much as possible ... PHP,CGI,PERL,LISP,PL1,JES2,RPG,PROLOG,CLIPPER,PASCAL,ASSEMBLY and
a host of older languages and some more obscure things I had to learn over the years.

But I would certainly like to share any ideas and thoughts, heck even code with you.

I use C#, but can do VB as well.
For my host I am using http://www.webhost4life.com/ - good rates and good service.
I have decided not to list the languages/tech that I dont want to do anymore, that way I don't get calls and I deny any knowledge.

I am working on a control for  the links page - extend db, make control to have link, name, category, description, open in new window or current.

Any code you have done???
