PhP on windows platform

hi,

Just curious, can i write and test PhP codes in windows platform(say win 2000) ? My client has a linux server and runs PhP pages. But i don't have a linux server, obviously i can't get him to move to asp.net as he is using linux at the moment. But i do need to write the PhP pages, any help ?

Yes, using your IIS server you can write PHP scripts with an ISAPI module or CGI binary (see php.net - info about IIS server with PHP).

Either way, the PHP code can be copy and pasted from Windows to the Linux server with only minor changes (usually dealing with file paths or other computer dependent features!).

yeah no problem, as long as you have either IIS or apache installed you can just download the php installation files from www.php.net.

I personally, have IIS installed and am running asp, php, mysql, mssql and asp.net all on one windows XP machine, but I have done the same previously on win2k,98, ME and NT4.

So the answer is Yes,

If you want a very easy life, try one of these installers;

They both install PHP, Apache and MySQL (plus the web gui tool for MySQL - phpMyAdmin). You'll be up and running in no time at all.

PHP runs pretty good on IIS. Yes you do need to install the ISAPI extension for IIS to use it, but it does a good job. When I first ran PHP-Nuke on IIS, the only problem I had was some of the modules didn't run properly, for example the vote module did tally votes.

I'm sure it works now. One thing you can do is run Apache on a Windows OS. I run Windows 2003 Server and have Apache running my php sites. I do have my sites set up in IIS for backup site purposes. If something happens an Apache goes down (unlikely) I can call home an easily get IIS going by switching it back to port 80, and I'm back up.

Either way, it run good even on XP.

Hi, I run Php, MySql and MyAdmin in my win98's IIS with no problems between then and Asp and Sql Server 7. Just for learning and goof around :)

but I have a question....

Is there a way to goof the machine so I can install Webmatrix in my win98?
