Incredible NO HELP OR SUPPORT for basic things like posting a value to another page9/2/2005 2:41:10 AM

I'm trying to migrate from ColdFusion to ASP.NET and I have not found any information for basic things, like posting a value to another page for example.

Every single sample or tutorial talks about everything but for basics.

I think Microsoft got lost when developing its new web plataform, it's not a intuitive language and structure for developers, although ASP.NET seems to be powerfull, the strategy to consolidate it as the number one resource for web developpers is less than poor.

I'm really tired of wasting time looking for help, even when looking in this site (where it was supposed to be the must important source of ASP.NET), so if you have a very simple way to explain how to post (or pass) a control value and retrieve it from another aspx page, it would be appreciate.

For those ColdFusion developers, I would recommend two think it 1,000 times before doing it.

Best Regards.

posting value to another page is easy using Querystrings - -
But - are you specifically talking about the posting of a form to a second page?

If so - the paradigm with ASP.Net 1.1 is much different than that - - you can do everything you need with the 'posting' of the form, with one page - - Object Oriented/Event Driven languages are different than the older web paradigm

The Submit button is merely an object - being an object, you assign an event handler with the 'click' event of the button - - you have total control of what that button can do, which is so much more than JUST submitting a form.

There are many simple-intermediate samples of code on the basics of how ASP.Net works here:

Thanks for your answer.

I'm talking about something as simple as sending a radiobutton value to a second page which can read the value and how to retrieve that value from the server, I know exactly how to do it the traditional way (sending values into url), but I think Asp.NET is told to be much more advanced than that, but how is asp.net going to be easy to use if its official web site is poor on information ?, not to mention advanced things but basics.

Maybe ASP.NET is easy for you, because you are into it, but what happen for those who wants to migrate form other languages and take advantage of this plataform ?. I think Microsoft has to do better to convince php, coldfusion, pearl, jsp and other developers that it is the best one, and trust me, without solid information (starting for the basics) I dont' think Microsoft is going to accomplish it.

I was decided to migrate, now I'm really thinking about it. Coldfusion has a rich information on its web site, and the community can help you in just a matter of minutes when posting in a forum at macromedia.com. I have bought 5 books of asp.net and they are just like the web, nothing clear.

I will have to stick to CF until further and simple information of how to take full advantages of asp.net come out to the network or market.

Best regards.

George,

Seriously, once you get the hang of .NET you will wonder why did I ever use ColdFusion.

The AutoPostback function is amazing. No more if statements in your select boxes.  There are tons and tons of custom controls to make your app look and behave like a Windows form.

I was a Certified ColdFusion developer ever since 4.0.  I can tell you that it was scary at first, but after a few months you are going to feel like a REAL programmer not some script kiddie doing ColdFusion.

If you have any questions and need quick answers, just email me.  I will try to save you from the dark side as soon as I can.

P.S. seriously try C# instead of VB.NET.  I am and I don't want to be caught in the delimea of another outdated langauge.  C# is a lot like Java and if C# goes bye bye, I should be able to catch up on Java rather quickly.
