I have the problem of trying to fit many links into a horizontal menu control. In theory all top-tier links should fit into the width of the menu control but in practice they do not because links such as "home" (4 chrs) occupies the same width as "Ultra Long Primary Link Name" (28 chrs). It would be really nice if the top-tier links took only as much width as needed (in a horiz menu) instead of being forced to the same width as the longest link. This causes a huge waste of horizontal space.
All feedback appreciated ... thanks in advance.

This is for a .net 2.0 menu control using CSSFriendlyAdapters, the menu control itself generates from a sitemap (but doesn't necessarily have to be from a sitemap).
EDITED: Solution: Eliminate fixed width tags in the style sheet. DOH!
