want the menu to show only authorized pages2/21/2008 6:38:19 PM

Hello !

I would like that the menu control only shows pages to the user that he is allowed to go on. Thus, when he is not yet logged-in the pages that are only for authorised users are not shown up in the menu control and show up once the user is logged-in.

Thanks a lot for any feedback !

Regards,
Fabianus

Use the following setting in web.config:

    <siteMap defaultProvider="XmlSiteMapProvider" enabled="true">
      <providers>
        <add name="XmlSiteMapProvider" description="SiteMap provider"
             type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider" siteMapFile="web.sitemap" securityTrimmingEnabled="true"/>
      </providers>
    </siteMap>

Hmm.

Intresting question. you have to study just few things.

1. Sitemap file.

2. ASP.Net Membership

3. Tree view control.

also this link will be helpful for u.

Hello Jos,

thanks a lot for your hint, that's what I needed.

Perhaps you have another information about that : I would like to hide a page once the user is connected. Any idea how to do this?

Because unfortunately the possibilities like deny roles, deny users, allow users do not exist in the sitemapnode.

Thanks a lot !

Fabianus

The key here is understanding how things hook together. As Jos says, you need to modify the provider so it has enableSecurityTrimming enabled. That  means the site map takes not of the authorization features, which define who can access which pages. You set this in the <authorization> section in web.config, which sets the site wide rules, and <location> elements (with their own <authorization> elements) for folders and individual files. Setting the authorization protects the page however it is accessed, so you can't navigate to it directly by typing in the url intot he address bar; the site map (when security trimming is enabled), honours this, so that nodes the user isn't authorised to see just got get seen.

The QuickStarts (http://quickstarts.asp.net/QuickStartv20/aspnet/doc/navigation/default.aspx) have good examples of this.
