Two-level tabbed menu navigation?11/4/2005 12:13:55 AM

0/0

Are there are any samples around showing how to get the Menu control and sitemap to provide a two-level tabbed navigation interface? I.e. something along the lines of what you see at Amazon.com -- a row of tabs, each one of which reveals another row of links. Not totally unlike this very page in fact.

Searching here I found some samples for a single row tabbed menu, but nothing with a different second row under each tab.

I am making some progress with nested master pages, with a second menu control in the child master pages, but I am having trouble getting it to work the way I want.

This seems like a pretty standard navigation paradigm -- I am surprised the Menu control does not support it right out of the box.

Matt,
This behavior is not supported out of the box by menu.  However, you could obtain this very behavior pretty easily with two menus and two sitemapdatasources.  The 2nd sitemap datasource (and associated menu) would be controlled through it's "StartingNodeUrl" property on postback or with "StartFromCurrentNode".  You can also create some very flexible layouts with a Menu and MultiView/Wizard control combination.  Let me know if you want more details about either of these.

Thanks -- that is what I have been playing around with, so I am glad to know I am on the right track with it.

I still haven't gotten it to work quite right though. If possible, I would love to see a working sample where two Menus and SiteMaps were combined and created a navigator that looked like Amazon.com's.

I would really recommend the use of DataLists instead of Menu in this case. If you don't need the pop-out feature of the menu, there's not much that it does that a DataList couldn't give you with much less overhead.

Hi, Matt_F

    How are you doing?
Have you got any solution for the two-level menu with sitemap in asp.net?

I am looking for exactly what you were describing here.

Best wishes,
IndianScorpion.

I have it sort of working, in a proof of concept way, but it still needs more work. I have moved on to other areas, but may revisit this.

But if you find or make a working sample, please let me know!
