Issue on setting up the master page4/25/2007 10:23:36 PM

Hi,

 

i am new to ASP.NET 2.0. I had created a master page with (Header,menu and Footer) . my question is how to allign exatly heigt and width of the each columns and rows.

 

i have created header and footer width as 100%.heigts as 10%. so the remaining is for the menu and content place holder.

but when i run my project without filling anything in columns it has started on the top right corner only with height of 20%( whole page). remining all the page is empty. so plz can any one help  me in this.

Hi Dilip,

Have you tried using table for Master Page layout? I would recommend using table for Master Page layout. It would be easier to define a row or a column in a table. And CSS can be able to used to define Master Page layout too.

It sort of depends on what you are talking about, exactly.  Do you mean that the header and footer are 10% of the height of the browser window and the content takes up, at a minimum, the other 80%?  So would you expect the footer to move down off the screen if the content required more than the 80%?  Or would you expect internal scrolling (sort of like frames) in that scenario?

 What I think you are talking about is a footer that sticks to the bottom of the page for content that doesn't require scrolling and, if it does require scrolling, the footer keeps moving down with the content.

 If that is the case, you should read the "footerStickAlt" stuff:

This will hopefully illustrate what you need to do to accomplish what you are asking.

Just as an FYI, though, this is probably one of the most sought after solutions for web design mostly because of how inconsistent CSS can be when handling this scenario.  I have used the above examples in my projects and they have worked as expected in all of the browsers I use and test against (IE 6 and 7, FireFox, and Netscape).  They say that it works with all major browsers but I can only confirm the ones I test with.
