I'm kinda new to VS 2005, but I have developed many Web Applications in 2003. I thought it would be awesome to start using the master pages, but all I've met is frustration. When I run this page using the local development server it runs fine and loads the master page. When I publish the app to our fp server, however, I get the above error. I've even tried putting the directive in each page and get the same error although it works fine locally. I've searched the forum, but couldn't find a definitive answer, or at least one that would work for me.

Update: Apparently I just had to change the path reference to include my root folder on the frontpage server. Now I am getting another error:

Configuration Error

Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

When I remove the authentication settings from web.config, I then get the infamous "Could not load type <namespace>.webform " error. All sources have led me to the same solution: Setting up the virtual directory as an application in IIS. Of course, since our department doesn't allow us to do any of that, I have to let our fp admin know about it. I'll update later on to let you all know if this solution works.

Final update: Problem was resolved with the solution above. We have a script that is supposed to run twice a day on our frontpage server to create the application virtual directory for all new application folders. Apparently that script isn't functioning, so it wasn't added as an application. I hope this helps someone else!
