Hi,

I am using master pages and I want to add a 'read only' set of users.  I have the users in the db and can check whether the current user is one of them.  So now i'm thinking of removing the edit and the delete button from the datagrids if the user is logged as a 'read only' user.  That will suffice as read only.

How can i do this from the master pages...i was thinking of using the rowdatabound to hide the two columns for edit and delete repectively but the datagrids are named differently.

Can anyone see a good way to achieve this.

First of all, I'm not exactly sure what MasterPages have to do with your situation. It sounds like you simply want the ability to hide multiple columns of one or more DataGrids depending on the result of  a specified condition. Is this what you are trying to attempt?

Yes but I have multiple pages...with Gridviews on many of those pages. I thought it easier if i could put the code into the master page rather than going to invidiual pages...as i would be using the master page i then relaised that i couldnt use the events of the gridview to hide the edit and delete column as the gridviews have different names.

That's not what MasterPages are to be used for. They're actually only glorified UserControls so that's not where you'd want to do this.
