Here's what I see when I run tabstrip:

Home About us Products Support Contact us

That's right -- just a line of text. As far as I can see the control doesn't do anything. And I have VS.NET installed and working fine with all the normal controls.

Similarly, multipage shows a single line of text:

This is page number one This is page number two, and this page view is selected!

So I see zero functionality on these. I suspect that the server controls are not correctly installed, but the instructions for installation are remarkly imprecise -- or at least use what appear to be made-up terminology.

Example:"1. Copy the contents of the Runtime directory to the webctrl_client\1_0 directory under your top-level site directory. "

What exactly is a "top-level site directory"? My development server has about a dozen sites on it, none of which are "top level". The individual site's directories are at various places in my directory hierarchy, not at all under wwwroot. As far as I know, there is no such thing as a "top-level site directory", or this is something that depends on some undocumented requirement.

As a result, I've created directory "webctrl_client\1_0" both under wwwroot and directly on the new site created for the samples. It still doesn't work.

All expected files and dlls are there. They just don't work, or aren't getting invoked, so the tags just do nothing and I see only the non-tag text.

Can somebody please post the correct, explicit way to get these controls installed?

I had that also, fixed it. Don't remember what I did exactly, sorry but keep looking.
I know I did have to put the page registration in correctly.
I remember taking one of the examples and doing a copy to start with.

Wish I had more to offer but I DO know it was something I did not do correctly at first...if I think of it, I will post more.

I was having the same problem until I read your post and then reread the Microsoft Internet Explorer WebControls Version 1.0 Readme File. I then created the webctrl_client\1_0 directory under my wwwroot directory and then copied everything from the IE Web Controls\build\runtime subdirectory created during installation of the web controls (using the downloaded IEWebControls.exe installation file [not .msi]) into the 1_0 directory. This copy included the *.htc files and the \images, \treeimages, and \treeimages\rtl subdirectories and their *.gif files. The webcontrols now have the behaviors I was expecting.

If you have not already found a solution, I hope this helps.

This worked for me as well. I was not reading the readme.txt closely enough. Moving the directories to the directory specified as the home directory solved the problem.

In most cases, when you run an iewebctrls page and you get a line of text (or sumthin like this)
.... 1st thing to check is the location of webctrl_client\1_0 and bin folders.
